Chileda 10 K (56:50)

The day started out a little rainy and very humid. I didn't feel real great the first two or three miles. Just felt kind of flat. Decided to just stay at a comfortable pace and try and enjoy the run. After about mile three I started to feel pretty good. My fasted mile was mile 6. I ran that in 8:50. Not exactly the way a 10k is supposed to be run. While my time wasn't the my fastest it was my fastest for this race. So a PR day when you felt flat was okay.

Ramona met her goal and ran under 70 minutes. She has had a very hard summer of running with some pretty major hip issues. So to see her out there was awesome. Jayde was up up with the birds and complained about everything she could possibly think of. But she broke 30 minuted in the 5k and even though she hates running and won't admit it I think she had fun.

When the run was finished it was pancaked in the park. Mmmmm Life is good. Pancaked by the river on a beautiful morning following a fun run.

Happy 4Th! Have fun and be safe.

Morris Challenge 10K

Lance and Jayde racing for the line

Clip Clop, Clip Clop! Clyde S Dale a coming!

Wow! What a great time! I ran the 10k in 56:37. It wasn't my fastest 10k but pretty darn close. My fastest time for an official race was 56:34. Three lousy seconds!!!

The weather was perfect for a run. The neatest part was seeing so many family and friends racing or volunteering. I can't wait for next year. Our numbers were a little low but for a first year race it was pretty good. I bet we double the entries next year.

I'm so proud of my wife for putting this all together. She worked for almost two years to make this happen. Two years! You never realize all the work that goes in to a race until you try and put one on. If at all possible preregister as soon as possible for a race. The race director will love you for it. Planning for an unknown number is a nightmare. Nightmare!

I already can't wait for next year. This will be an annual race that will be held the last Sunday in June. Saturday is the Brice Prairie time trial bike race and Sunday is the run. The benefits of the run are being used to fund the Morris Scholarship program. This year we were able to give out three $250 scholorships. We hope to see this grow. We gave a scholarship to one student in three categories. One for track and field, one for art and another for S.A.D

So lace up your sneakers mark your calanders and I'll see ya next year. (Sunday June 27th, 2010)

PR 5K !

Ran a personal best 5k in 26:05 tonight. Wanted to break 26 in the worst way. Came up 5 seconds short. Oh well, next time. Planning on running the Susan Coleman 5k cancer run in Madison next week. Now I've got to pick up 6 seconds. 25:59 is my goal.

LaCrosse Half Marathon 5-3-09

2:12:06

The weather was scheduled to be perfect for the run. Temperature at the start was around 45 degrees. I expected it to not warm up very fast and be about mid 50's at the finish.

I started with a long sleeve top and my race singlet over the top. This turned out to be a big mistake. The sun was out and bright and the temperature shot up fast. The first two miles were okay as they were pretty shaded. Mile three was out in the sun and I got hot. Fast! I missed the first water stop. The people were everywhere and it would have really slowed me down.

By mile six I was really hot. Had to stop and loose the long sleeve shirt and finish in the singlet. Tried to change fast and that was a disaster. IPod cord got tangled in my shirt and ended up taking twice as long as it would have if I would have taken my time. By mile ten I started to feel dehydrated and didn't have near the energy that I thought I would. My plan was to pick it up the last three miles. Now I was feeling flat. My training runs of ten miles I felt strong at the end. Not today. I ended up just lagging to the finish and felt like my legs were going to cramp. My mile per minute time really sucked the last three miles. Really sucked! I don't think I could drink enough to make up for the heat from being overdressed and missing the first water stop. Once the tank is empty it's hard to fill it back up when your running.

All in all it was still a fun day. My time was not what I had hoped but there will be another day. Lesson learned, I like to run cool and will not make the same mistake again. Next year I need to run more hills getting ready for this race. The roads along the bluff really zapped my energy. Not sure if it was the up and downs or the lack of fluids but either way I could have used some more hill training.

Oh Deer! Oh *&%!

How fast things can change. This was a Monday night that was just to nice not to ride. I was three weeks out from Ironman Wisconsin and was about to begin my taper. Thanks to a deer on Casberg coulee hill it was to be my last ride of the year.

At 40 mph the deer bounded out and left me no time or choices other than to hit it. It was a direct hit. T-Bone! Over the bars and down the road to the emergency room I go. All in all I was pretty lucky to escape with only a broken foot and a ton of road rash. Some stitches in the arm and a week on the recliner was in store for me. I had bruises on my bruises. No Ironman Wisconsin for me this year.
